Disconnection
Artist Statement
For most of my life, I have felt a profound disconnection between myself and other people. I was largely isolated for much of my childhood, and so I learned to see both myself and everyone else as “the other”- alien, confusing, and incompatible. In these paintings I confront this disconnection by examining through self-portraiture the emotions and sensations that have been shaped by this loneliness, influencing my perceptions of both myself and the world around me.
