Reclaimed by Nature

Artist Statement

These self-portraits in which I have merged myself into natural forms and places are a representation of reconnecting with nature through death. As much as we try to hide from death, it always finds a way to return to us, giving us an opportunity to experience another life through the environment. Being taken over by nature can make dying a beautiful transition towards being reborn. We can find peace and acceptance in connection with moving on into a new life. The idea of leaving one world to another can be unsettling for human beings. With that being said, this body of work shows that death is a natural process that everyone will experience one day, and the natural world is waiting to reclaim us. To restore its own energy, the environment uses our physical form for its own growth and renewal.
